Our Ladiesâ Guild/LWML (Lutheran Women in Mission) will observe LWML Sunday on October 13th.
This yearâs theme is âReady To Serveâ, Luke 1:38.Â
LWML began in July of 1942 when 100 LCMS women from around the country met at St. Stephenâs Lutheran Church in Chicago. Their goal was to join together all the womenâs groups in supporting mission work to: 1) develop and to maintain a greater mission consciousness through mission education, mission inspiration, and mission service; and 2) to gather funds (Mites) for mission projects sponsored by LCMS.Â
The âMite Boxâ is based on the Biblical Story of the widowâs mite (Luke 21:1-4). In the 82 years since LWML began, over $100 million dollars in Mites has been raised to fund mission grants. Seventy-five percent of the Mite donations remain in Central Illinois and twenty-five percent is sent to National.Â
Mite Boxes will be placed at two doorways as you leave the worship services. You are invited to drop coins or currency into the boxes to help fund both Central Illinois District and National Mission Grants. Checks can also be written to âChrist Lutheran Church Ladies Guildâ. In the memo line write âMitesâ. Thank you!
